AdwordsDeceit
I have a guy that I do web work for that uses Adwords and has used Google Adwords for years. For all intents and purposes, I have to be clear that I do not do any sort of Search Engine Marketing other than website maintenance and designs for some ideas we came up with. I do, however, talk with my client about his Adwords and will certainly answer questions he might have as to what my thoughts are with his account. I think what I’m seeing is quite miss leading on Googles end. We are talking about saving money, and not loosing any traffic. I even have the evidence to show those of you questioning this very post.
Because the changes made to test the effects of CPC and overall spend were done just last month, I do not have an entire months of data to show but I think you’ll see that pictures here are speaking quite clearly. Below is the overall statistics of March 1st through the 20th and that copmared to February 1st thought the 20th. Prepare for amazement.

So you see here, we don’t hardly have any loss in the amount of traffic. Impressions have gone up more than half, cost per click has gone down more than half, cost per impression (WTF), cost per conversion 64% less and no fall in conversion amount, and total cost difference is 64% less than last month. So what was the trick? How’d he do that without loosing on visitors.
He lowered the cost per click…
The highest paying keyword used in this account is estimated by Google to be ($5.79) and I can assure you that at one point this was being paid monthly.
Am I pointing my fingers at Google, a little but, they need to make money so I can see how exagerating their numbers to influence an increase in cost per click may be a good idea to generate higher revenue. Mostly I’m mad at myself and hope that those of you who have been managing Pay Per Click will go through the work you do and see if you can’t test this out. Of course this won’t work for everyone, different markets do different things. But you should try and get that cpc down, lower the conversion cost, and lower overall cost. I hope this helps some people, I know it was a shock to me.
